The first of three brand new ferries for Wightlink’s Lymington to Yarmouth service has arrived in the Solent. It will replace one of the existing ferries which has operated on the route for more than 30 years.
Wight Light was built in Croatia and is 75 per cent heavier than the ships it will replace, although it is only four metres longer. Wightlink is consulting with all yacht clubs in Lymington to ensure that there will be no detrimental impact on their activities, and extensive sea trials will be carried out to establish appropriate operating speeds before the new ship enters service.
