Winners of the marine world's most prestigious awards are announced
Tonight, from London’s Savoy, the world’s boating industry gathered, eagerly awaiting the results of the 2013 Motor Boat of the Year Awards, sponsored by Pantaenius Insurance.
There were a total of 11 different categories, from Starter Boat to Custom Yacht, to the reader-voted Outstanding Service Award.
Carl Richardson, editor of Motor Boats Monthly, and Hugo Andreae, editor of Motor boats and Yachting, presented the awards. Richardson started off with the Starterboat category, saying, “This category continues to surprise and inspire in equal measure, with a simply breathtaking selection of craft ready and able to launch people into the great boating adventure.” Later the Custom Yacht category saw its first British winner, with Sunseeker taking the title.
At the end of the ceremony, MBM’s editor introduced the Judges Special Award, saying, “Us Brits aren’t supposed to do celebrations nor indeed patriotism particularly well, but this event brought pride and joy to millions, and created a groundswell of optimism that the Olympic Games rode quite magnificently.
“With goose-pimpled memories of fluttering flags and defiant smiles, with a welcome lump in our throats and some admittedly damp clothing, the Judges Special Award goes to the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.”
Pageant Master Adrians, and Michael Shefra, who headed up the Recreational Motorboat Squadron, collected the award on behalf of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.
