Fire badly damaged a Littlehampton boatyard on Saturday. Six fire engines attended the blaze which broke out in a workshop at Hillyards boat yard in Rope Walk at around 2am.
Fifty per cent of the building was damaged by fire and heat, with the remainder damaged by smoke. The cause of the fire is being investigated, but arson has not been ruled out at this stage.
It was reported that the company’s current managing director had been absent for over four weeks, during which none of the nine workers there had been paid, and that the landlord had reclaimed the site.
