Family cruiser in aft-cabin or open-cockpit forms
What they say”Just like its little sisters the 29.9 and the 39.9, the 40.9 is available as an aft-cabin boat, or as a sedan with an open cockpit.”
What we sayDecisions, decisions. No doubt the roomy aft cabin will prove irresistible to some buyers. And who wouldn’t fancy a whole extra-large and comfortable cabin when it comes for free (the twin-cabin Sedan is the same price as the tri-cabin AC 40.9)?
However, the price to pay is in the workings of the boat, for the sedan version does work so wonderfully well. Hardly small to start with, the saloon on the sedan feels colossal, thanks to the uninterrupted view through the enormous cockpit and over the stern. The deep windows, generous 6ft 7in (2.00m) headroom and the sunroof overhead all add to the feeling of space. When you’re meandering along the inland waterways soaking up the scenery, the great view out, plus the lack of steps to climb to the aft deck, must be big advantages.
If eating and drinking are two of your great pleasures, you’re in for a treat. Sited next to the rear doors, the galley is in the ideal position to serve the saloon and the cockpit. All four crew could have coffee and croissants on the forward dinette, sip gin’n’tonic and snack around the saloon table opposite the galley, and then invite a couple of friends for alfresco dining around the large cockpit table.
Satin-finish cherry is still Linssen’s timber of choice, but the 40.9’s furniture style is different to the Grand Sturdys’ of old: it’s more modern and square edged, not so chunky. What has not changed is Linssen’s excellent steel build and engineering quality, which make the boats so appealing to run and own.
