Offshore Sport Promotion (OSP) have announced the cancellation of the Lebanese Grand Prix, round seven of the Class 1 World Offshore Championship, scheduled to take place in Dbayeh, Beirut on September 30.
OPS Managing Director Nathan Knight said the decision follows in the wake of recent events in the USA together with present uncertainties involving the Middle East.
Knight went on, “The cancellation has been made with much regret after lengthy consultations with all interested parties. We are bitterly disappointed as it was only a few weeks ago that we signed the agreement to race in Lebanon.
“The Local Organiser, the local Organising Committee and indeed the Lebanese Government did everything possible to ensure the event could proceed. In the end, time caught up with us and we had to take a decision on the information available. The risks associated with US retaliation and possible extremists’ response were simply too high.”
The cancellation does not effect the final WOC rounds planned in Fujairah and Dubai, UAE, on October 26 and November 2.
