Exciting international response to Formula Future contest at Carr Mill
The UIM Formula Future World and Continental Championship for junior powerboat racers has attracted one of the largest ever entries from across the globe.
To be held at the Lancashire Powerboat Racing Club in St Helens, some 80 competitors, aged 8-18, from Great Britain, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Germany, Slovakia and 2009 champions Russia will compete in manoeuvring and slalom disciplines over the weekend of 13-15 August.
John Puddifoot, RYA powerboat racing manager, said: “We are delighted that the championship has come to the UK this year and that UIM president Dr Raffaele Chiulli will be joining us.
“Formula Future is a fantastic way of showcasing the young powerboat talent not only in this country but worldwide. We are looking forward to what promises to be a very exciting and close fought weekend of racing.”
Hosted by the RYA, with official sponsors Powerboat P1, the championship will see competitors racing against the clock in five different classes, with a maximum of two competitors in five age groups:
Class 1 8-9 years
Class 2 10-11 years
Class 3 12-13 years
Class 4 14-15 years
Class 5 16-18 years
