He’s most famous for his roles in The Wire and Luther, but next year will see Idris Elba take on a more nautical challenge
Idris Elba will be turning his hand to powerboat racing in 2015 as part of a new documentary series he is filming for the Discovery Channel.
The new four-part series, which is being filmed under the working title of The Idris Elba Project, will see the Golden-Globe winning actor take on four extreme speed challenges.
As well as powerboat racing, Idris will try out rally driving, street racing and aerobatics, after learning about the engineering behind each machine. Filming will take place in various locations split across the USA and the UK.
The 42-year-old said of his new show: “I’m taking on the toughest racing challenges of my life for this new Discovery TV series.
“The extreme challenges will take me right out of my comfort zone as I compete against the best on land, water and in the air.”
The one-hour episodes are due to air in the USA in mid-2015 before being syndicated out to international TV channels.
