Plans have been put forward for a huge statue to be built at the entrance to one of Europe’s oldest and best known harbours. Copenhagen City Council is investigating the feasibility of building the 72m tall structure in the water at the mouth of the city’s harbour near Trekroner sea fort.
‘Store Robert’ (Big Robert) was designed by the late Danish artist Robert Jacobsen more than 20 years ago. The 1,800-tonne structure would be taller than New York’s Statue of Liberty and would cost in excess of £20 million.
A number of business interests intend to fund the project which, if it gets the go-ahead, could be in place by 2010.
