In an increasingly competitive marketplace, Honda still heads the competition by offering the most extensive marine engine warranty in the business. Its confidence in its product is underpinned by the only five-year warranty available, two years more than any other manufacturer.
Its domestic customers receive a full five years cover for parts and labour. Even professionals such as coastguards and fishermen, whose engines undertake exceptionally high usage, receive a market-leading two-year warranty.
By comparison Mercury, Mariner, Suzuki and Evinrude each provides three years’ domestic cover, while Yamaha offers just two.
“That means delivering the very best in customer satisfaction quality and service,” says Phill Haynes, Manager – National Sales (Honda Marine). “We provide a unique level of care over the whole life of the product. A commercial fishing catamaran in the Isle of Wight recently completed 8,000 hours on its two Honda engines. At an average of 25 knots this equates to 200,000 miles in the harshest of environments.”
Honda pioneered four-stroke technology when it began producing marine engines in 1964, overcoming the inherent weight and cost disadvantages to engineer a compact, light, efficient product. It has solely produced four-stroke engines ever since.
