Help track down Bembridge engine thieves

Isle of Wight company Bembridge Outboards is appealing for help following the theft of engines worth £40,000

Bembridge Outboards is appealing for people to come forward as witnesses following the theft of engines worth £40,000 from its yard on the Isle of Wight.

Thieves broke through the company’s gates on the night of 17 January and stole two F250hp Yamaha outboards, and a single F175hp engine.

They also attempted to steal another 30hp outboard, but had trouble removing it and left it badly damaged, the company said.

The bigger engines each weigh approximately 300kg, so would have required a number of men to lift, as it appears that no lifting gear was used.

Upon leaving, the thieves ‘rewired’ the gates to make them look undamaged.

It is thought that the theft would have taken a number of hours to complete, and that someone may have seen them at work late Sunday night or in the early hours of Monday morning.

The company is also asking anyone if they saw a heavily laden van with muddy tyres at one of the island’s ferry ports the following day.

If you recall seeing anything suspicious, you’re asked to call the police on 0845 4504545, quoting crime reference 44100021810, or Jim Robinson at Bembridge Outboards on 01983 872817.

All information received will be treated in confidence.
