Motor boat yard Hardy to retain workforce after acquisition by Windboats
Norfolk motor boat builder Hardy Marine has been bought by local company Windboats, the firm that makes the Oyster range of sailing yachts.
Windboats said the production of Hardys will continue at the company’s North Walsham yard and that the whole workforce will be retained.
The buyout follows the sad death of Hardy boss Mark Funnell following the PSP Southampton Boat Show last year.
Windboats confirmed that the production of Hardy’s new flagship, a 62-footer, will continue and that work is ongoing on the orders received at Southampton.
“We will be looking carefully at the current range and already have a new design from the board of Andrew Wolstenholme in the plug-making stage,” Windboats boss Trevor James said.
“We are reviewing the current interior styling and layouts and following discussions with owners and the sales team will be applying new ideas to our interiors.
“However we are to some extent bespoke builders and very happy to produce interiors to meet our clients’ wishes.”
