Rain over Bank Holiday almost sinks boat!
MBY technical writer Greg Copp got a fright when he went down to check his boat at R.K. Marine on the River Hamble on Monday.
The boat wasn’t there!
After looking around, Greg found the Revenger 27 on the hard on someone else’s trailer, and after asking the team at R.K., discovered the boat had sunk and been hauled out in the nick of time.
Greg says: “The guys at R.K. did a great job. Not many boat yards would do that, let alone on a Bank Holiday.”
Luckily the boat’s Evinrude E-tec 225hp outboard was undamaged – it was trimmed up and the water had only reached the bottom of the powerhead.
Greg says: “The excessive rain over the long weekend had filled the boat up and the fuse for the float switch had blown under the pressure of working itself to death!”
Greg installed the fuse recently and had uprated it to ensure it didn’t blow under repeated use.
As he says, it’s a lesson for all RIB owners, particularly those with low transoms. Greg’s Revenger has a 22inch transom, meaning the rain water could relatively quickly lower the boat to a point where sea water could get in.
He is currently in the market for a cover.
