A man who made headlines for being a shark killer has been fined for his barbaric act – see photos of the gruesome catch but be warned, they don't make for pleasant viewing

In October 2011 MBM ran a story on a man who had been labelled a shark killer after he caught a great white shark while fishing and posed for photos with his dying catch.

The incident ocurred in Mossel Bay on the Southern Cape of South Africa, leading local marine research group, Oceans Research, to say the man in question, Leon Bekker, had brought “shame” on the recreational angling community. Great white sharks are protected in South Africa.

Bekker has now been handed a £8500 fine, making him the first person in the world to be convicted of killing a great white shark.
