Anyone navigating off the Cornish coast on Thursday and Friday, June 7 & 8, should avoid relying solely on GPS. Tests to be carried out at Portreath by the Ministry of Defence into ways of jamming GPS signals may result in signals being interrupted or corrupted.
The tests are scheduled to take place between 0900 and 1700 each day, and Coastguards have been told to expect disruption up to seven nautical miles offshore. All navigators are reminded that GPS should only ever be used as an aid to navigation and not a replacement for conventional methods.
