Video footage of the moment the devastating tsunami struck the Japanese coast has emerged on YouTube
Live video that shows the moment of impact of Friday’s tsunami on two towns in Japan has emerged on YouTube.
The footage from ANN shows boats and cars in the fishing port of Miyako being overturned and dragged through the town as the terrifying wave takes a hold. At one point a fishing boat slams into a bridge before being dragged underwater.
The second half of the video shows cars being washed through the city of Kamaishi as though they were bath toys.
It will be some time before the full extent of devastation wreaked by Friday’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami is known. The official death toll stands at around 2500 but the final figure is expected to be much higher; in Miyagi Prefecture it is estimated around 10,000 people have perished.
