The Kent town will host the UK’s only international offshore powerboat racing event of 2015, over the weekend of August 14-16
Folkestone has been named as the host venue for the 2015 UIM Powerboat Racing Championships.
The Kent port town will welcome competitors in the 3A, 3B and V24 classes over the weekend of August 14-16.
Racing at speeds in excess of 60 knots, the UIM fleet is expected to attract a large crowd of powerboat fans to Folkestone for this free event.
The action starts on Friday August 14, when the European championship teams will begin their practice laps, including British V24 class champion Dan Priestly (pictured above).
But the powerboat racing begins in earnest at midday on Saturday, followed by the final race at midday on Sunday.
The RYA recommends that spectators head for the viewing points at the Harbour Arm, Sunny Sands and overlooking Wear Bay.
The 2015 UIM Powerboat Racing Championships will form the highlight of the Folkestone Harbour Festival, which runs over the same weekend and includes live music and entertainment, fun fair rides, food and drink, and a raft race across the harbour.
