Fletcher in administration

The Midlands sportsboat manufacturer called in the receivers last week.

Sportsboat builder Fletcher has become the latest UK boatbuilder to go into administration. Receivers were called into the Staffordshire-based sportsboat builder Thursday evening after the company had been unsuccessful in securing extra finance.

Yamaha UK, which handles Fletcher’s sales and marketing throughout Europe, has confirmed that any boats bought or ordered at the London Boat Show will be fully covered by warranty.

Created in 1960, Fletcher have passed through a series of owners since being sold by the founder, Norman Fletcher, to the Hornby Group a few years back.

The Fletcher sportsboat and its Dell Quay dory ranges stretch from 4.3-7.6m (14-25ft). Fletcher is also a major supplier of industrial mouldings, producing such things as coach bodies, wind-generator parts and simulator capsules. Boatbuilding accounts for around 30 per cent of its undisclosed turnover. The company employs around 140 at its six-acre site in Burntwood, Staffordshire.
