On-deck living is hardly a new idea. Nevertheless, there’s a lot of original thinking in this boat.
On this size of sportscruiser, ditching the below-decks galley completely is unique as far as we know. Although there is a short run of units opposite the dinette down below, it’s a flat-screen television that pops out from the countertop, not a coffee maker. There is no lower galley option even though the space is there, and whether the galley on deck has enough storage for your needs is the main issue. Still, the 48 has been designed around the way many people use their boats nowadays.
That novelty is just the start. The lower dinette can be swapped in favour of a third twin cabin, either way the layout already includes a separate shower to back-up the two heads.
The hardtop is very interesting. It’s roof is largely sliding glass, but it also has a pleated blind to obscure the glare when needed, so it has the class of a solid roof, plus the unimpeded skywards view that a fabric sunroof provides. A roller-blind of sorts is used to quickly enclose the area under the hardtop forward of the sunbed, and it’s extremely quick to deploy.
Elan are claiming 34 knots from the 575hp shaftdrive version, but they will consider fitting 435hp IPS600 if you ask. Stir in the 48’s singular styling, plus its novel galley arrangement and unusual hardtop, and the 48 can genuinely claim to offer something refreshingly different to the current crop of hardtop sportscruisers.
