What we sayThe 48 seems like quite a design departure for Elan, with touches such as the near full-length window and the curious grey gel-coat, which we reckon gives the Elan a cool, purposeful look.
Form has not taken priority over function though – the cockpit has a sensible balance between sunbathing room and seating areas when at rest or during a passage. Opposite the dinette there is a good-sized wet-bar and an optional cockpit griddle, which is perfect if you feel like retracting the hardtop and having a barbeque.
There is a choice between a spacious two-cabin layout below decks, but the three-cabin, all-ensuite set-up caters for those owners who regularly have guests on board. Elan have designed the hull to cater for a V-drive layout, but will also fit IPS if requested. The twin 575hp Volvo diesels giving a top speed of 34 knots. The combination of speed and a very capable hull should throw down some serious competition in the 50ft hardtop category.
