Wartime incendiary landed off Beachy Head by two fishermen
Two fishermen landed more than they bargained for when a 500lb bomb appeared in their nets.
The crew of Joanna C were around two miles off the Eastbourne coast when they pulled up their nets and made the unwelcome discovery. Emergency services were called, with the coastguard the first on the scene.
Due to the bomb’s detonator being intact, the crew were told to anchor offshore until the bomb disposal team arrived from Portsmouth.
