New event lined up for this December
A new Earls Court Boat Show is being launched, taking place this December.
Full details of the project remain under wraps at present and will be revealed at the end of this month by the organising team.
However the event may be seen as a rival to the London Boat Show, which takes place around a month later in a venue which many punters are yet to warm to.
The London Boat Show took place at Earls Court for around 50 years and many protested when it moved to ExCel (pictured) in East London’s Docklands three years ago.
A statement from Earls Court says: “We can confirm that we are in the final stages of discussions with the organisers of the Earls Court Boat Show and are looking forward to hosting this spectacular event at the spiritual home of boat shows, Earls Court, 30th November – 9th December 2007.
“The creation of the Earls Court Boat Show is in response to overwhelming demand from both exhibitors and visitors within the boating community, to provide a show which offers an entertaining experience, and a real alternative to the London Boat Show, held at ExCeL in January.”
The new event has been put together partly by James Brooke, who has worked in the marine industry as a sailing and motorboat instructor and head of his own sea school.
On the event website www.earlscourtboatshow.com he says: “‘We have in place an incredible team with enormous combined experience and expertise to make the Earls Court Boat Show a success. It will showcase our industry. It will support exhibitors and focus on creating sales for exhibitors. It will provide spectacular family entertainment. It will allow exhibitors to celebrate our industry, and of course enjoy the best end-of-show exhibitors party ever held.”
James told MBY: “On a personal level, I always went to the Earls Court show as a child and I’ve wanted to give my two young children the same experience.”
To confuse the issue still further, the British Marine Federation, who organise the London Boat Show, have recently been looking at putting on a Liverpool Boat Show, for May 2008.
The BMF said they were aware of the plans for an Earls Court event.
