An RNLI lifeguard based at Treyarnon beach, Cornwall, battles through the surf during a training exercise in the summer of 2007.
The image is the RNLI Pentax Photograph of the Year and was taken by Bobby Renaud, an RNLI lifeguard from Cornwall.
The finalists and their photos were announced at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show on Friday.
The RNLI teamed up with Pentax to equip RNLI volunteers with waterproof digital cameras to record life-saving action, when possible.
