Throttleman Curtis, from Southampton, and his Norwegian driver Bjorn Gjelsten are neck and neck on points with rivals Ali Nasser and Ali Al Qama in Victory 7 as the season comes to a dramatic conclusion.
Curtis and Gjelsten’s boat Spirit of Norway completed the 4.71nm qualifying lap in 3mins 2.17secs at an average speed of 107.13mph (172.38kmh). Victory 7 were second in qualifying. The race takes place in Nakheel, Dubai.
