New 50ft Cranchi model due for 2013 launch
Italian yard Cranchi is the latest name to jump on the hybrid cruiser bandwagon, with this striking Trawler 50. Looking like a cross between a Bénéteau Swift Trawler and a Botnia Targa, it is an obvious competitor to Jeanneau’s new Voyage 42 and yet more evidence that the usually conservative world of flybridge cruiser design is undergoing major changes.
The hybrid cruiser idea mixes traditional elements, such as deep safe decks and practical wheelhouses, with a hull that can turn in a useful slice of performance but also deliver solid efficient slower-speed cruising.
Details are fairly scarce on the 50, but with a planing hull and twin IPS 600 (2 x 435hp) pods this particular hybrid clearly isn’t intended to run at displacement speeds. Enveloped in glass, the interior offers galley-up wheelhouse layout at deck level, with three cabins below, including a full beam master.
Look out for our special hybrid-cruiser section coming up in the May 2013 issue of MBM, including the new Magellano 43 and our chief boat tester Nick Burnham’s take on slowing down.
