Firefighters battled the blaze on board the motoryacht Kahu for 10 hours, but the boat finally sank on her moorings last night
Firefighters battling a huge blaze aboard a Nordhavn motoryacht moored in East Cowes Marina yesterday finally gave up when the gutted boat sank on her moorings last night.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident just after 1pm and several fire appliances rushed to the scene near the Lifeboat pub.
They found the Nordhavn 76, Kahu, which was built in 2011 and is listed for sale at Ancasta for $5,650,000 (£3.5m), well alight. Firefighters made sure that nobody was aboard before warning people in the local area to keep windows and doors closed because of the thick black smoke billowing from the vessel.
