Spain swells its line-up in the series
Duemme Offshore team boss, Domenico Cirilli, has revealed his ‘new-look’ team for 2009 – owned by Duemme Yacht Brokers Spain S.L and based out of Torrevieja – will make its first appearance of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix in Alicante, on June 5-7.
Cirilli confirmed that he will throttle the Lamborghini-Skema V12-powered, Victory-built hull and announce his new Spanish driver in the coming weeks.
The news of a second Spanish team in the Championship is a boost for Morten Eckhoff, the organiser of this year’s Spanish Grand Prix, which sees the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship returning to Spain for the sixth time in 16 years, and to Alicante for a second time.
“We have been working for this for the last four years,” said Eckhoff. “It has been a long and complicated procedure. But everything is in place and on track.
“The location is the same as 2004 but there has been a lot of development since then and is now very different. The infrastructure and the amenities are excellent and we are planning to put on a fantastic show, with concerts and a variety of entertainment to compliment the racing. Class 1 is a fantastic sport and Alicante is a great location, and we are anticipating a huge turnout during the week.”
