Classic race boat to be decked in classic livery
The colours of Cinzano Bianco are returning to the racing scene this summer in the Round Britain Powerboat Race.
The boat CUV 558, revived for the race, will compete once again under Cinzano colours, as she did in the 1980s when she was regularly triumphant.
The Round Britain Powerboat Race starts on 21 June from Portsmouth. Around 40 race, production and classic craft will take 10 days to return to Gunwharf Quays, including two rest days.
It is only the third time the race has been run and the historic occasion has prompted many crews, that of CUV among them, to revive classic craft and make them competitive once again.
The 558 CUV won the Cowes-Torquay four times ” twice as 558 Cinzano Bianco, and twice under other livery, and came second in the last Round Britain in 1984, with Renato Della Valle at the helm.
The boat was something of a crowd favourite in the early 1980s when she was also known as Rothmans/Ego Nooxy.
Powered firstly by Mercruisers then by Lamborghini, she was remembered for her distinctive red, white and blue livery on the aluminium CUV hull.
She will be racing in those famous colours again in the Round Britain 2008 and, possibly, in the revived Cowes-Torquay in August.
