Construction of the first model from Glider Yachts has begun at Burgess Marine, after the new company secured the necessary funding
Glider Yachts has announced that construction has begun on its first prototype, the SS18, after the necessary funding was provided by a consortium of private investors.
This radical multihull cruiser is due to be launched in late September at the Monaco Yacht Show and will certainly prove a head-turner if the design renderings above are anything to go by.
Built by Burgess Marine as part of a £100m contract, the Glider SS18 will be capable of a top speed of more than 60 knots.
Nick Buckland OBE, chairman of Glider Yachts, said: “We have spent seven years designing and developing the Glider Yachts fleet, so we’re incredibly excited that she is now in production.”
As we reported in January, the 60ft SS18 will be powered by four 260hp Rotax 4TEC engines and feature a proprietary stability control system. Prices will start at around £475,000.
Further plans are in the pipeline to build much larger and faster Glider Yachts models, with hull lengths of up to 265ft and top speeds of up to 87 knots.
