Power and sail meet for tuition and socialising
The RYA are encouraging owners to sign up for the organisation’s 2008 muster, at Cowes Yacht Haven on the Isle of Wight from 12 – 13 April.
The RYA say: “The spring muster is the perfect opportunity for boaters to get together and brush up on vital safety and boating skills before the summer cruising season kicks in.
“Designed for both sailors and motor boaters, the weekend event boasts a packed agenda incorporating boating master classes, boat handling and taster sessions, as well as expert presentations and skill building activities.
“You’ll also have the opportunity to chat with industry experts about any issues you may have on your own boat on a one-to-one basis throughout the weekend.”
Master classes and presentations include:
· Whipping and splicing lessons from Aladdin’s Cave
· Boat environmental checks and hints on how to ‘green’ your boating with the Green Blue
· DSC VHF advice from ICOM
· Winch and windlass servicing with Lewmar
· Ocean safety boat checks and life raft and lifejacket demonstrations
· Electronic navigation with Raymarine
· Pre season engine checks with Sea Start
Sealine Sea School and Hamble School of Yachting will provide boats for the popular boat handling sessions and skills masterclasses.
Participants will also have the chance to swap power for sail to try out how the other half take to the water.
Meanwhile the kids also get the chance to hit the water thanks to UKSA who will be running dinghy sailing sessions throughout the weekend.
The RYA add: “Alongside the practical elements of the muster there’s a great social side too.
“The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club plays host to the Saturday evening drinks reception courtesy of Alpine Electronics, which includes hot buffet, disco and a prize draw with top prizes up for grabs thanks to the muster’s sponsors.”
