Forget shark attacks, this family has a carp attack they will never forget
Footage has appeared on YouTube of shoals of jumping fish showering a motorboat navigating the Spoon River in US.
Asian carp are reportedly alarmed by propeller noise and try to escape by leaping as much as 10ft out of the water.
It appears that anyone taking a boat along the waterway, which is tributary of the Illinois River, may be in line to collect a free supper without recourse to fishing tackle. It is a pastime not without risk, however, because the fish can weigh up to 45kg.
A spokesman for the Environmental Protection Agency said that boaters have suffered broken bones, black eyes, cuts, back injuries and concussion as a result of being hit by the fish.
