Ancient outboards sought as part of centenary year
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of engine manufacturer Evinrude this year, UK outlet BRP Recreational Products are launching a search for the oldest Evinrude out there.
“To help us celebrate the past and present of the Evinrude engine we are currently trying to source the most historic engines still in operation and are interested in hearing from customers,” says Maria Whitlock, Marketing and Communications Advisor, BRP Recreational Products UK Ltd.

BRP are showing off the latest addition to the Evinrude outboard range at RIBEX.
RIBEX, the only show in the UK dedicated solely to RIBs, runs from Friday 9 May to Sunday 11 May at Cowes Yacht Haven, on the Isle of Wight.
BRP say: “The Evinrude E-TEC 300hp wraps a big block two-stroke direct injection power plant in a compact, lightweight design that provides more performance than competitive engines at the same horsepower.
“The high power to low weight ratio provides a host of advantages including greater fuel efficiency, less draft for improved boat handling, faster boat planing, and less stress on the structural integrity of the boat transom.
“With 3.4 litres of displacement, the 300hp offers more torque, low-end power and top speed than similar competitive two and four stroke outboard engines.
“This additional power allows boaters to plane heavy loads better than ever before and the additional torque is particularly beneficial for boating in high altitude areas and hot climates.”
One of the biggest benefits of the unique E-TEC technology is increased fuel economy and extended boating range, the manufacturers say.
Evinrude claim a 35% to 40% improvement in fuel economy and 50% improvement in oil consumption compared to traditional electronic fuel injection (EFI) models.
The engine is available in white 25inch and 30inch shaft models as well as counter-rotating models.
