One of the country's most iconic lighthouses is to lose its distinctive red and white stripes in a bid to save money
Beachy Head lighthouse is to be allowed to lose its distinctive red and white stripes because it is no longer considered an important day navigation mark.
Trinity House says it can no longer justify the £45,000 cost of repainting the lighthouse every 10 years, but will continue to keep the light operational to assist navigation after dark.
