Bay Ship & Yacht has entered the custom-built high performance sports motor yacht market with the launch of Blue Thunder.
Bay Ship & Yacht has entered the custom-built high performance sports motoryacht market with the launch of Blue Thunder. The 42ft yacht, designed by William Garden, is constructed of a lightweight wood/epoxy/fibreglass composite, and is the first custom yacht built by the yard for more than 20 years.
She is powered by twin turbo-charged Volvo D4 300 outdrives giving a cruising speed of 32 knots and a top speed of 42 knots. Her custom interior is crafted with veneered, ultra-light honeycomb-cored panels, with a satin varnish finish.
Bay Ship & Yacht, based at Alameda, California, is best known for building fishing boats, and aluminium and steel commercial vessels such as excursion and tour boats. The yard’s owner, Bill Elliott, said that Blue Thunder was built to showcase the yard’s ability to create custom built sports yachts up to 100ft in length. (photo courtesy of DavidAllenStudio.com)
