Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli has spoken of his love for his latest motoryacht, which was delivered earlier this month
Andrea Bocelli has taken delivery of his latest motor yacht, which combines Dutch boatbuilding skills with Italian flair.
MY Libertas is a 22.1m custom trawler model from Gamma Yachts, which the company describes as a “mini superyacht”.
Built by Dutch yard Vripack, the interior uses Italian materials to create the warm, comfortable feel that its opera star owner specified.
Andrea has owned several motoryachts before and said of the new arrival: “I love the way space has been arranged so that our large extended family can be together, enjoying closeness and intimacy, while at the same time respecting everybody’s privacy.
“A yacht must meet precise needs and be able to make us feel at ease. Coziness, warm materials, safety, low noise levels and comfort: these were my needs, and they have been fully met. I needed a solid, safe and comfortable boat, and I am very happy with my choice.”
Fit and finish
Designed for long-distance cruising, the Gamma 20 has enough living space to accommodate six guests and a crew of two, while Nalad zero-speed stabilisers help ensure a smooth night at anchor.
Other striking features include a flybridge diving board and a hydraulic swim platform at the stern.
One-level decks were a key requirement for Andrea, who has been blind since the age of 12. Further customisation comes in the form of an on-board piano and recording studio, which allows him to make music at sea.
The twin Yanmar 6SY set-up produces 1,300hp and allows for a maximum speed of 16 knots. When the cruising speed is dropped to 14 knots, MY Libertas can cruise for 1,270nm without refuelling.
