Beneteau tread new ground with the Barracuda range
TweetBeneteau are once again looking to diversify their brand with the arrival of the new Barracuda range.
The first boat is 28ft 8in (8.78m) in length but the press release hints at plans to expand the range in the future.
The looks are very much of the Botnia Targa and Paragon ilk but Beneteau promise that the tough facade is going to be more than matched by an excellent hull.
The hull will use their unique Air Step technology which channels air in to the hull’s step and produces dynamic lift.
The wheelhouse design will provide excellent protection in rough weather but when the sun is shining and winds are light the external helm position option will make for a great alternative spot to drive from.
The deck spaces have been designed with usability in mind so they are clear and spacious with deep side decks either side of the wheelhouse too.
Accommodation wise there is a double berth in the bow and a small separate bathroom which should suffice for comfortable weekending.
A possible sticking point in Europe, and the UK especially, could be Beneteau’s choice of outboard propulsion but with twin 200hp engines they claim an exciting 45-knot top speed. It is currently unclear as to whether an inboard option will be available.
