Bales of marijuana with an estimated street value of $4m (£2.6m) were found "strewn" around panga-style boat in US
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office has uncovered a haul of marijuana hidden in bushes near an abandoned panga-style boat on a Californian beach.
The discovery was made in the early hours of Sunday 17 March on Arroyo Quemada Beach after the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office was called following reports of an abandoned boat.
Police found bales of marijuana “strewn about the area” near the apparently abandoned 30-foot boat, which had twin outboard engines and over 20 fuel containers on board.
Earlier this year £13m worth of drugs have been seized at the Essex-based Port of Harwich
The drugs were seized and the boat and its fuel containers were removed for further investigation.
According to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, more than 20 incidents of smuggling using similar style boats have been uncovered over the last year.
