Five new venues to be included in 10 race series
The International Offshore Team Association (IOTA) has announced that five new venues will be included in this year’s 2006 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.
The Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi and the Slovenian resort of Portorose will host the series for the first time.
Cannes, previously a destination for the championship in 1988, and Arendal, Norway, will welcome back the series.
A fifth new venue in Spain is still to be confirmed.
“To be in a position to announce such an exciting line up with ten races in eight countries demonstrates the continued and growing interest from around the world in the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship,” said IOTA president Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani.
IOTA is expecting to announce the team line-ups in the coming weeks but has hinted that 11 boats will take part in the 2006 series.
