While mechanical tappets may have disappeared from underneath a car bonnet many years ago, marine engines have lagged some way behind. Hydraulic tappets only became the norm a few years ago, so there are many boats out there which are going to need their mechanical tappets checked and possible adjusted at regular intervals.
