Day 6 Channel Islands & France

Participants have the rest day to explore Jersey

What a difference a day makes. The MBM fleet awoke to bright sunshine glinting of the still water of the marina. There was no alarm, no weather check and no VHF call this morning for the fleet. Everyone had the day to themselves to explore their new-found territory.

With the tide out during the day, St Helier Marina was a sun trap and participants seized the opportunity to soak up some rays on deck and relax. With the town just a few metres away the buzzing high street with its sprawling selection of shops, a spot of retail therapy was also on the agenda. For others it was time to see Jersey and it seems St Aubin’s Bay was a popular destination. The crews of Summer Wine and In Motion walked and cycled there, while others among the fleet hired cars to explore the entire island.

There was also another birthday among the fleet today – MBM staffer Claire was celebrating her 30th.

At 6pm Neale briefed the fleet on tomorrow’s passage and this was followed by a pontoon party. Everyone mingled in the evening sunshine and tucked into Claire’s birthday cake. Weather permitting the fleet will make for St Peter Port, Guernsey tomorrow. The plan is for Time Flies to go out just after 8am when the sill opens and assess the conditions en route. It is a relatively short passage to Guernsey, with the slowest boat taking just over two hours.
