Day 2 – West Country

A day safely tied in port for the fleet, with howling wind and heavy downpours

Rain stops play

With the wind howling the fleet have spent a lazy day in port today. Heavy rain has dominated most of the day, with a break after lunchtime providing some sunshine, but it was short-lived. For those lucky ones with televisions there was the distraction of the Wimbledon Final or the Grand Prix. While others were content to potter, clean or walk into Hamble village.

A briefing was held in the cockpit of Blue Fin at 1800hrs for the five boats at Mercury, and then by telephone to the other members of the scattered fleet. The verdict, unfortunately, was another no go for tomorrow. The weather forecast is identical to today’s, force 5’s gusting 8’s with heavy downpours. The bad weather is showing no signs of improving and the MBM team are working on contingency plans.
