Not so much a toy, more a toy box – this sleek boathouse is every design-savvy boatowner’s dream
We don’t normally feature buildings in MBY, but this boathouse on the banks of the river Yealm in Newton Ferrers is well worth sharing.
Designed by Wimshurst Pelleriti architects and situated in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the 65m² Berberis Boathouse was specially designed to blend in.
It is constructed from untreated Siberian larch over a galvanised steel structure and sits on a quayside restored using Cornish granite curbs.
Inside, a custom-made boat hoist by Wise Handling (famous for its dock yard travel lifts) will lift a boat 15ft into the eaves (either to keep it clear of a rising tide or to allow another boat to be docked inside the boathouse beneath it).
This £250,000 example will accommodate and lift an 18ft sportsboat, but since each one is a bespoke build you can specify whatever size you need.
