Alan Harper joined Motor Boat & Yachting in 1984, and served as editor from 1991. He has many thousands of miles of motor cruising under his belt, and has skippered yachts from the Baltic to the west of Ireland and from France to the north of Scotland, as well as in the Mediterranean, Adriatic and the USA.
Since going freelance in 2003 he has tested and written about boats and boating for numerous other publications including Power & Motor Yacht, Country Life, How To Spend It, Yachting World and Vanity Fair. He holds the RYA's Yachtmaster Offshore qualification and lives in Devon.
