Second championship round launches P1 in Turkey
With the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea is less than three weeks away Powerboat P1 Chairman & Chief Executive Asif Rangoonwala has addressed Turkish media, sponsors and event organisers, outlining his plans for the Istanbul event and his eagerness to show-off the Powerboat P1 World Championship series to a new base.
“Racing in the heart of one of the biggest cities in the world, on one of the busiest global waterways, should make for spectacular viewing and attract excellent crowds along the Bosphorus shoreline.”
Deputy Mayor of Istanbul, Göskel Gümüþdað believes the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea will be like nothing else ever staged in Istanbul adding,
“It’s going to be an incredible spectacle with the people of Istanbul united by their love of the sea. It is a great source of pride for Turkey that our country ranks among the top in Europe in terms of ship construction. It is also fourth in the world in mega yacht construction. Having the Powerboat P1 World Championship in Istanbul after these achievements is also a source of great excitement and honour.”
“These races will bring a new enthusiasm to many industries such as the maritime and ship construction sectors, especially to the yacht construction sector as well as benefits to our city’s promotion and tourism.”
Buoyed on by the prospect of bringing maritime racing to Istanbul, Gümüþdað added:
“Istanbul is a mosaic of cultures and it’s a great statement for the city to be attracting a special sporting competition, such as the Powerboat P1 World Championship, to help promote the Bosphorus on the world stage. Powerboat P1 is an all-action high octane race of the sea and we are all looking forward to welcoming the best pilots in the world.”
The Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea runs from June 19-21 with free public viewing along the course.
