Three anglers had to scramble out of their motor boat and onto rocks after being swamped by heavy seas
Three anglers had to scramble out of their motor boat and onto rocks after being swamped by heavy seas.
They had been fishing off Ramore Head, County Antrim, Northern Ireland when their engine failed. Unable to manoeuvre the boat, they leapt out when it started to sink.
“I doubt a kill cord was used,” said a spokeswoman for the Coastguard. “We received a call about a vessel aground off Ramore Head. By the time we got there, it was just a case of assisting them to safety,” she said.
Coleraine Coastguard Rescue Team and Portrush RNLI Inshore lifeboat were tasked with the rescue mission on 17 September.
The half-submerged motor boat was towed to Portrush Harbour and hauled up the slipway. There was no sign of an outboard motor.
