Edox confirms lead in P1 SuperStock championship

Pugh and Crossley reward new sponsor with two wins at Plymouth

Edox closed the gap at the top of the P1 SuperStock championship after two emphatic wins in Plymouth over the weekend.

Rupert Pugh and Tony Crossley were unstoppable. They shot ahead leaving the rest astern to win both rounds and collect a maximum championship score of 40 points.

The double win comes on the back of retirement from the second race in Jersey and puts the Edox Swiss Watches crew firmly back in the title hunt.

“It’s a great feeling to win after the frustration of retiring from the lead at the opening round in Jersey,” said a delighted Pugh.

There were two different winners in the P1 150hp class and some very close-quarters racing.

Macdonold Mermaid began the weekend by winning Saturday’s match races and securing pole position.

Husband and wife team David and Kirsty Toozs-Hobson made a great start in Sunday’s opening race to get the better of championship leaders Team Purple, but in the second race they fell back and finally finished fourth behind Team Fox.

Team Purple, crewed by Stuart and Sara Cureton, headed the fleet to the first turning mark before moving further ahead, a spot they held to the chequered flag.

Stuart said: “We had a great start run to get into the lead at the first marker and then just worked hard to pull further ahead. We’re in top form having won three out of four races, so expect to be in the title fight all the way to the finale in Liverpool.”
