The new entry-level Ferretti 550 will be launched in early 2015
Spring 2015 will see the launch of the new entry-level Ferretti 550.
The 550 boasts a brand new hull with maximum power coming from a pair of 700hp diesels, meaning a top speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed in the mid-twenties.
The styling, described in Ferretti’s own press literature as “sober”, is restrained and sleek if somewhat lacking in visual clout.

The interior is more engaging with a fine mix of dark woods and light textures plus some splashes of bling, like the mirrored strip in the saloon headlining inset with slashes of LEDs.
The familiar Ferretti aft galley arrangement is in place on the 550 and the wooden floor at the aft end of the saloon is a great way to stop wet feet visiting the fridge from soaking the carpet.
The central part of the saloon is home to the main seating area, with a U-shaped dinette to starboard and a pair of quirky bucket chairs either side of the pop-up television opposite. This raised area is likely to have excellent views out of the enormous side screens.
The standard layout below decks is a three cabin, two bathroom arrangement with the master and VIP cabins both getting an ensuite heads and walk-in wardrobes.
The master is beautifully finished and has large hull windows plus a cosy breakfast dinette with wonderful views of the waterline.
There is the option to remove the VIP cabin’s wardrobe and make it into another bathroom and both layouts get a single-berth crew cabin at the stern.
The flybridge layout is a simple one with a large spread of sunpad forward of the helm station and U-shaped seating and a table at the aft end.
The backrest on the twin helm seat flips forward to allow two more people to sit facing the table during meals.
The new baby of the Ferretti range may be too subtle for some tastes but it’s sure to be a classy contender.
