In the second part of our practical videos series, Jon Mendez explains how to change your impeller
If you’re out at sea and your engine is overheating, there’s a good chance that you may need to change an impeller.
This is one of the most common DIY fixes that you can carry out to keep your boat running and in this video Jon Mendez of Mendez Marine shows us how its done.
With the help of his assistant Keiron, Jon removes the old impeller using an impeller puller – an invaluable tool that can be picked up for as little as £25.
All of the other equipment needed to carry out this job should be in your toolbox, and the whole job can be done in less than half an hour.
If in doubt, ask a professional to carry out the work, but bear in mind this can cost up to £300 for a large engine, such as a Volvo Penta D12.
