The 2016 London Boat Show has got off to a great start, with plenty of new yachts and celebrity appearances

The opening day of the 2016 London Boat Show has seen the ten-day event get off to a great start, with a steady flow of visitors and plenty of popular attractions.

Princess Yachts kicked off the day on Stand G120 with Managing Director Chris Gates launching the 75 Yacht, which he hailed as a “world beater”.

In other Princess Yachts news, the company announced that its fully restored Project 31 will be going on a world tour in 2016, taking in Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong before returning to Plymouth.

Over on the Sunseeker stand (G070), founder Robert Braithwaite was joined by Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville to talk boating on the Thames and their experiences of working with the BBC.

The Sunseeker boss revealed that a BBC documentary about the Poole-based yard will be aired later this year, before heading outside to christen the all-new Sunseeker 131 Yacht.

Other highlights on the London Boat Show opening day included the UK launch of the Rodman 890 Ventura – the first outboard-powered model from the Spanish firm, which can be seen on Stand B170/D.

Meanwhile the Bénéteau Swift Trawler 30 has proved to be one of the most popular models on display, with customers flocking to Stand A130 to explore this clever pocket flybridge.
