The state-of-the-art Eden Island marina is opening up the idyllic cruising ground of the Seychelles to boats of all sizes
The Seychelles has long been the destination of choice for honeymooners and holidaymakers due to its idyllic climate, crystal-clear seas and pristine white beaches, but now it’s opening up for boat owners too.
A state of the art marina with berths for every kind of craft, from sportsboats to megayachts is attracting a new breed of boating clientele in search of the ultimate cruising experience.
With a year- round boating season, spectacular scenery and 116 different islands to explore, it is the closest thing to boating nirvana you’re ever likely to find.
As one skipper memorably put it: “Imagine the Virgin Islands, double the size, cancel the hurricanes, take out the crowds and you have the Seychelles.”
Location
The Seychelles archipelago is situated in the Indian Ocean just a few degrees south of the equator and well away from the hurricane belt.
Although it is beyond the range of most production motor yachts, Sevenstar Yacht Transport can easily arrange to have your boat shipped here for a season or more.
Eden Island Marina is connected to the main island of Mahé via a short road bridge and is less than ten minutes drive from Mahé International airport.
With numerous flights from all over Europe and the US, you can step on to a plane in the evening and be enjoying breakfast on your boat the following morning.
Cruising Area
Motor Boat & Yachting’s editor Hugo experienced a three-day charter in the Seychelles last year and after sampling everything from snorkelling to game fishing concluded: “life doesn’t get any better than this.”
Whether your idea of heaven is swimming among the teeming coral reefs, fishing for sailfish off the back of your boat or relaxing in the shade of a granite boulder on a sun-drenched beach while the warm blue water laps at your toes, the Seychelles has it all.
Facilities
Designed to accommodate the world’s finest megayachts, Eden Island Marina is equipped with the very latest amenities, berthing facilities and round-the-clock security.
It boasts more than 1,000m of solar-lit pontoons and every berth has access to a Rolec service point with fresh water hoses and single or three phase power from 32A to 400A.
The lively marina boardwalk plays host to a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars while the Plaza shopping mall, hotel and casino are just a short walk away. Electric golf carts and Wi-Fi are also available for berth-holders’ use.
For those who prefer dayboating there is a wide range of villas and apartments for rent or sale within walking distance of the marina. Alternatively, both Sunsail and Moorings keep their charter fleets in the marina if you’d like to try before you buy.
Berthing
Eden Island Marina is equipped with finger pontoons and stern-to berths suitable for any size of boat from 7m sportsfishers up to 115m megayachts.
With a minimum depth of 5.1m throughout the marina even deep-keel sailing yachts can lie afloat, while the berths can be adjusted to fit any beam including the growing fleet of sail and motor catamarans in the area.
