In the latest of our regular series we take a closer look at Swanwick Marina, which has recently undergone a multi-million pound upgrade
Premier’s Swanwick Marina has always been a world-class marina but a £5.8 million development programme has recently transformed it into one of the most modern and comprehensive facilities on the South Coast.
With space for nearly 400 boats and berthing options ranging from fully serviced pontoons to pile moorings and a brand new dry stack, there is a package to suit every size and style of craft, from a 6m sportsboat to a 30m motor yacht.
And being part of the Premier Marinas group, every berth-holder enjoys additional benefits, including free visitor nights at other Premier Marinas and discounted fuel, services and insurance.
Location
Situated on the picturesque Hamble River with 24-hour access to the Solent and beyond, Swanwick Marina is right at the heart of the UK’s most popular cruising ground, but thanks to excellent road, rail and air connections, it is easily accessible from almost anywhere in Europe.
Southampton airport is only 15 minutes away while the M27 motorway and Bursledon train station are just five minutes away.
Cruising Area
To borrow a phrase from Samuel Johnson, when a boat owner is tired of the Solent, he is tired of life.
From quiet rural hideaways to historic naval dockyards and bustling seaside towns, the Solent is awash with classic cruising destinations, such as Cowes, Portsmouth, Lymington, Yarmouth and Chichester.
Whether your preference is for a family picnic in a secluded bay or a hearty meal at one of the countless waterside pubs and restaurants, there is something to suit every taste.
Facilities
Thanks to the recent development work, Premier’s Swanwick Marina now boasts some of the very best facilities in the UK.
A new self- service fuel berth with a high speed diesel pump that doubles the normal flow rate makes refuelling a breeze, spaces for up to 370 cars means you’ll always be able to park close to your boat, and two luxurious new washroom blocks give berth-holders all the privacy and comforts of home.
Boatyard services include a hoist bay for craft up to 65 tonnes, an 80-berth dry stack and on-site specialists for servicing and repair work.
There’s even a secure self-storage facility where berth-holders can leave excess cruising kit on site.
Berthing costs
Prices for a pontoon berth range from £574 per metre per year for boats up to 8.0m, to £722 per metre for craft over 22m.
Boats under 6.5m qualify for a special annual rate of £3,026, while pile moorings are available from as little as £1,624 pa.
For owners of boats up to 11m, the new dry stack berthing package offers all the convenience of a pontoon berth but with fewer maintenance costs.
Prices range from £480-£500 per metre per year and include an unlimited number of lifts and launches as well as Sea Start membership.
All annual berth-holders qualify for the Premier Advantage package of 42 free visitor nights at any Premier Marina, fuel at cost, eight weeks free storage ashore, free Wi-Fi on board and savings on boatyard services and Premier Marine Insurance.
